Holistic Health, SBS is here to help you with our experts in mental health and wellbeing. We use a combination of CBT, DBT, and talk-therapies to provide you with the best tools to improve your health. We use evidence-based strategies bespoke to your situation to ensure that you can achieve sustainable results.

What is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps individuals address and manage psychological difficulties by identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns, emotions, and behaviours. It is rooted in the principle that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected, and altering negative thought patterns can lead to improved emotional and behavioural outcomes.

CBT is a goal-oriented and problem-focused approach, typically short-term, with sessions tailored to an individual’s specific challenges. Our therapists work collaboratively with you to identify distorted or maladaptive thoughts (e.g., catastrophizing, overgeneralization) that contribute to emotional distress. Techniques such as cognitive restructuring, journaling, and behavioural experiments are used to replace these with healthier, more realistic perspectives.

Behavioural strategies, such as exposure therapy or activity scheduling, are employed to modify behaviours that reinforce negative patterns, such as avoidance or inactivity. CBT is highly adaptable and has proven effective for a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and substance use disorders.

With CBT we aim to foster your skill-building and self-help, empowering you to become your own therapist. Our focus on practical, sustainable strategies helps to manage future challenges, fostering long-term resilience and well-being.

What is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop coping skills for difficult situations. Originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan for treating borderline personality disorder (BPD), DBT has since been adapted to address various mental health conditions, including emotional dysregulation, self-harm, substance use, and eating disorders.

DBT combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with principles of mindfulness and acceptance. It emphasizes the balance between accepting one’s current situation and working toward meaningful change.

DBT focuses on four core skill areas:

  1. Mindfulness: Enhancing present-moment awareness and reducing emotional reactivity.

  2. Distress Tolerance: Developing healthy ways to manage crises without resorting to harmful behaviors.

  3. Emotion Regulation: Understanding and effectively navigating intense emotional experiences.

  4. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Improving communication and relationship-building skills.

The therapy also integrates the concept of dialectics—acknowledging that two opposing ideas (e.g., acceptance and change) can coexist—encouraging flexibility and balance in thinking. With its structured framework and emphasis on practical skills, DBT equips you with tools to build emotional resilience and improve your quality of life.

What is person-centred talking therapy?

Person-centred talking therapy, also known as client-centred or Rogerian therapy, is a humanistic approach to psychotherapy developed by Carl Rogers. It focuses on providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment to help individuals explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, enabling personal growth and self-discovery.

Central to person-centred therapy is the belief that individuals have an innate ability to achieve their full potential and resolve their challenges when given the right conditions. The therapist’s role is not to direct or interpret but to create a safe, empathetic, and accepting space that fosters self-awareness and self-acceptance.

The approach is grounded in three core principles:

  1. Empathy: The therapist deeply understands the client’s perspective without judgment.

  2. Unconditional Positive Regard: The therapist accepts and values the client wholly, fostering trust and openness.

  3. Congruence: The therapist is genuine and authentic, modeling honesty and vulnerability.

By emphasizing your autonomy and strengths, person-centred therapy empowers you to identify your solutions and make meaningful changes. It is effective for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem challenges, offering a compassionate and empowering path toward self-fulfilment.
